Residents of Kiambu County have staged protests in Nairobi City today demanding the resignation of their Governor, Ferdinand Waititu.

The irate protesters stormed Delta Hotel in Nairobi that is said to be owned by the embattled County boss throwing pig heads inside the business premise.

Business was paralyzed at the hotel before the police intervened and dispersed the protestors.

The protesters carried banners demanding Waititu to resign from his position as Kiambu governor even after being barred from office by the high court.

Waititu has faced corruption allegations of awarding illegal tenders, abuse of office, conflict of interests and acquiring prime properties illegally. The Delta hotel is one of the properties that he has been accused of acquiring illegally soon after ascending to office.

On July 29, Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi at Milimani Law Courts directed that Governor Waititu and other accused county officials be barred from accessing the Kiambu County offices.

Governor Waititu and his wife were charged alongside eight other suspects with the embezzlement of over Ksh.588 million public funds in Kiambu County.

The magistrate also warned them about interfering with witnesses and ordered the accused persons to deposit their travel documents in court.

Waititu’s office has since then been taken over y his deputy governor, James Nyoro.

Since assuming the Gubernatorial office, Nyoro has attempted to make changes that will suit his tenure by reshuffling the county’s cabinet.

However, this power move did not go as planned as a resident moved to court to challenge the decision by Nyoro to reshuffle the Cabinet.

After this appeal, the High Court has on September 25 barred the acting Kiambu Governor from making changes in the cabinet.

Additionally, the court blocked him from making any public appointment until a matter filed under a certificate of urgency by a Kiambu voter is heard and determined.
