Uasin Gishu Women Representative Gladys Boss Sholei has revealed the reasons why President Uhuru Kenyatta has failed in his bid to tame opposition leader Raila Odinga through March 2018 handshake.

Speaking on Tuesday morning during Citizen Tv’s Day Break show, the women MP claimed that President Uhuru’s main reason for embracing the handshake was to tame Raila.

Sholei claimed that Uhuru’s plan only worked for some time since it cooled down the tension which was threatening Uhuru’s government but started going south after the introduction of the BBI monster.

According to her, things started changing when Raila tricked Uhuru into the Building Bridges Initiative BBI, something Sholei opined was not in Uhuru’s matrix.

“The president went into the handshake to tame Raila but it has now turned into a monster especially after Raila introduced the BBI that pushes for a referendum,” stated the former Judiciary registrar.

While reiterating her initial support for the handshake, Sholei accused ODM of not being genuine its push to unite the country saying the party instead, was using the handshake to push for a constitution change through a referendum.

Despite assumptions that the handshake had impacted negatively on many Kenyans, Sholei, instead, alleged the handshake has made no difference whatsoever especially to the common “mwananchi”

Sholei’s remarks were, however, rubbished by Kisumu Women Representative, Rosa Buyu, who stated that handshake was not meant to tame Raila Odinga

She added that the handshake was not about Raila Odinga or Uhuru Kenyatta but rather initiated by two gentlemen spearheaded it on behalf of the country.

“Raila would not have gone into this handshake because he thought the President wanted to tame him. Nobody can tame an adult. The handshake was all about the country and the two were just spearheading it on behalf of Kenyans,” she communicated

“Handshake has brought tremendous peace and allowed the economy to build up. Handshake has not stagnated anything, the opposition speaks when necessary” she added.

She explained that contrary to the thoughts of those who were opposing it, the handshake was not an employing company that was supposed to put money in people’s pockets but rather creating an environment for private investors to invest in the country.

Buyu also refuted Sholei’s claims saying it has not been stated anywhere that BBI was pushing for a referendum. She termed that as propaganda.
