Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome has said that the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has sensed defeat in the upcoming Kibra by-elections and has resorted to violence to scare away other opponents in the race.

Alice said: “They have foreseen defeat. They have a smelt a rat and the rat is that they will be defeated in this particular race by Jubilee’s Candidate MacDonald Mariga”

She added, “Just has it has been whenever ODM loses an election, it calls for violence”.

The MP was reacting to the stoning of Jubilee’s candidate MacDonald Mariga’s vehicle in Kibra on Friday.

She also accused ODM MPs led by Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino of “lack of respect for peace and human dignity”

“They cannot be allowed to incite and cause violence in Kibra,” Alice said adding that the Jubilee Party will not accept intimidation from their rivals in the city by-elections.

“Jubilee MPs leading the campaigns for Mariga will not accept any intimidation”

Alice further reprimanded Babu Owino for asking Jubilee’s candidate MacDonald Mariga to pull out of the race following the violence that rocked the latter’s campaign in Kibra on Friday.

While commenting on the violence Babu Owino said: “I don’t support violence at all but I already told Mariga to leave the race for a fly that does not listen to advice is buried with the corpse. The goat that broke the drum of kibra people is paying with the skin. I’m humbly requesting Mariga to leave the race, live to fight another day and plan like Eliud Kipchoge.Let’s maintain peace”.

ODM has also denied claims that it is behind the Friday violence witnessed in Kibra.

In campaign rally on Sunday, Embakasi MP Babu Owino blamed Jubilee for organising the chaos.

“Hao walienda wakajiorganise wakajipiga. Halafu wakaenda police station kureport ati ni watu wa ODM waliwapiga” Babu told the cheering told.

When loosely translated in English, Babu said: “They organised themselves then went to the police station to report that it is ODM supporters that attacked them”
