According to him, contrary to what the story had reported, the Director of Public Prosecution DPP and the DCI had not brought any similar case in court against him.

“DPP has not brought it court, neither has DCI claimed anywhere in the evidence that a cyber in Langata was a source of any letter. Lakini tunaelewa… Just note – a lie repeated many times REMAINS A LIE,” posed Itumbi.

Ithumbi was responding to a story published by Citizen Digital reporting that Itumbi and co-accused Samwel Gateri Wanjiru had both been charged afresh over allegations of publishing a false document claiming that Deputy President William Ruto’s life was in danger.

However, what angered the former Communications strategist was the report that the letter had been drafted at a cyber cafe in Lang’ata area in Nairobi after police turned to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to help with investigations.

Ithumbi challenged the media house to show him the FBI report they were insinuating about.

On Tuesday, Itumbi and Gatheri appeared before Magistrate Martha Mutuku where they pleaded not guilty after the court accepted that the two matters be consolidated.

The two had been linked to an alleged assassination letter involving Deputy President William Ruto. It was alleged that three cabinet secretaries from the Mt. Kenya region had met at Hotel La Mada along Thika road with William Ruto’s assassination plan being the topic of discussion.

The three CS’s were later summoned to the DCI headquarters on June 2019 to record statements where they rubbished the allegations terming them as wild and unsubstantiated.
