ANC party candidate in Kibra by-election Eliud Owalo has urged Kibra residents to maintain peace ahead of November 7, by-election.
Addressing members of the press on Sunday, Owalo who spoke just a day after Jubilee candidate Macdonald Mariga’s convoy was stoned, appealed to electorates to embrace every candidate in the constituency without physically expressing their displeasures.
“I appeal for Kibra residents to allow us to create an enabling environment for all candidates to sell their agenda Afterall, at the end of this exercise, the constituency will have only one MP,” stated Owalo
He urged Kibra residents to evaluate and elect a candidate who was going to deliver o their promises. At the same time, Owalo appealed to the IEBC to enact the code of conduct each candidate had signed to abide by as one way of curbing the impending political acts of violence allegedly sponsored by some politicians.

He termed political intimidations and violence currently being witnessed in Kibra as retrogressive politics that belonged in the past and not a modern-day democracy.
“Gone are the days we used to have certain regions marked as belonging to a certain political party. That is retrogressive and negative politics that belongs to the past,” added the ANC candidate.
Earlier on Sunday, Jubilee candidate Macdonald Mariga had also urged his competitors (ODM) to shun away from violence saying the heinous act witnessed on Saturday was not going to dampen their spirit as Jubilee.
“Thank you Kibra. I want also to thank the huge crowd that filled the Bukhungu grounds Makina Ward who came to listen to me and Welcome jubilee to Kibra. I am thrilled as the rally was successful even though violence emerged against our supporters by criminals from another party that claims that Kibra is their bedroom,” posted Mariga on his Facebook page.
Mariga’s convoy in Kibra was pelted with stones and tyres set ablaze in the middle of the road, a few metres from a towering billboard with the candidate’s face.
It was alleged that chaos erupted after a Jubilee point man in the area was caught with some Sh10 million with the intention of buying Identification cards from voters.
