Uhuru Makes Direct Phone call To Eliud Kipchoge Ahead of INEOS159 (VIDEO)

President Uhuru Kenyatta makes a direct phone call to Eliud Kipchoge while at St Mary’s High School, Nairobi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday made a direct phone call to world greatest marathoner, Eliud Kipchoge just to wish him well on his bid to beat the INEOS challenge.

Calling from St Mary High School, where had gone to lead the school’s 80th-anniversary celebrations, the President told the 42-kilometre world record-holder that he was certain he will defeat the challenge.

“I am feeling confident, you are in our prayer, my friend. Just wanted to pass that message unto you. I am praying for you that you will be successful,” said Uhuru.

The head of state went on to remind the athlete that all Kenyans were behind him not only for the success but for the effort he will put in ensuring that the challenge is defeated.

“But for us, it is not about the success, it is the effort that you will put in. And effort for humanity my brother.

May God bless you and continue protecting you and give you all the courage you need tomorrow and remember you have 46 million of us behind you. I will call you when you are done God bless you!” said the President.

The President’s phone call comes at the backdrop of his deputy’s visit to Vienna, Austria where he will be looking forward to cheering Kipchoge.

Deputy President William Ruto arrived in Vienna on Friday and sent a warming message to Kipchoge.

“Arrived in Vienna Austria to join in cheering marathoner Eliud Kipchoge in tomorrow’s INEOS 1:59 Challenge.

We are on the verge of witnessing with our own eyes, evidence that no human is limited.

For us in Kenya, this race echoes the faith of our ancestors who resisted colonial domination, our founding leaders who won our independence and our generation who continue the struggle to escape the artificial limits of inequality, exclusion and injustice,” wrote the DP on his social media accounts.

The Ineos challenge, dubbed INEOS159, will begin on Saturday at 9.15 am.

Kipchoge is expected to compete against time in his bid to finish the 42km race in less than 2 hrs.
