Kericho to Open State of The Art Maternity & Casualties Unit

A 100-bed capacity mother and child facility and a casualty wing at Kapkatet district hospital will be opened next month, Kericho governor Professor Paul Chepkwony has said.

Kericho county government in partnership with Andrew Webs Charity Trust undertook the Sh 200million project with a view to providing quality health care services at the sub-county hospital.

Chepkwony inspected the facilities on Tuesday which has the state-of-the-art mother and baby unit and two fully equipped theatres at the casualty wing.

“The facility will be one of its kind in the country and it will greatly improve healthcare service delivery to residents. We are happy to announce that the facility will be ready for use next month,” Chepkwony said.

He said the county government had partnered with Andrew Webs Charity Trust to facilitate the provision of quality healthcare services for residents and non-residents.

“This is a partnership between the Kericho county government and Andrew Webbs Charity Trust and through this public-private partnership, we are very proud that we will have a facility like no other in this country.

It is a state-of-the-art facility worth Sh 200 million with two theatres, incubators for newborns and a rest area for mothers. This facility will open its doors on November 7 and people of Kericho and Kenyan at large will start using the facility,” he added.

Present during the inspection of the facility was Andrew Webb Charity Trustee Mr. Peter Belsoi, Kericho deputy governor Ms. Susan Kikwai, County Executive Committee Member (CEC) in charge of the health docket Dr. Shadrack Mutai and the chief officer Dr. David Ekwam and other Kapkatet district hospital officers.

Kapkatet district hospital is located in Chemoboin sub-location Bureti constituency, Kericho with a 200-bed capacity offering various in-patient and out-patient health services.
