The President added that despite being a member of the Jubilee party, Kenya was very much important than Jubilee politics. He told off critics of the handshake saying they did not have the interests of the country at heart.

“I know I am a child of Jubilee. I am happy with my party and I am proud of my party. I also said I am a Kenyan and beyond my party. I am proud of my country and the people of the Republic of Kenya,” Uhuru said in Kajiado trying to explain his relationship with Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

The president who was speaking at the funeral of the former chairman of the defund Olkejuado County Council Daniel Kisirimo Ole Muyaa narrated that there was no political party in the country that do not love peace.

“It is important that we do all we can to ensure that we have united communities. There is no party in Kenya that does not love peace, development, and unity. There is no single person who can say claim they can carry the entire country on their shoulders,” stated Uhuru.

The President reiterated that his cooperation with opposition leaders is underpinned by the understanding that national unity is important for the achievement of the country’s development objectives. He said growth and progress cannot be achieved when the country is divided.

Uhuru also called on leaders to promote peace and unity saying that is the only way Kenya can achieve its development objectives.

His comments come at a time when the ruling Jubilee party has disintegrated with one camp supporting his deputy William Ruto and another opposed to the DP succeeding Uhuru.

Tanga-tanga team have been claiming the president had abandoned Ruto since he shook hands with Raila Odinga in March 2018.
