2019 IAAF Worlds Day 10: Kenyans to Watch in Doha

Image result for julius yegoAs curtains fall at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships, six Kenyans will be competing for medals in various categories.

Starting from 7.40 pm, Timothy Cheruiyot and his compatriot Ronald Kwemoi will be battling gold in the 1500m Men category.

Cheruiyot will be on lane two while Kwemoi will be racing on lane seven-the two battling it out with ten (10) other competitors.

Image result for Timothy CheruiyotAt 7.55 pm, the African and Commonwealth record holder Julius Yego aka Mr. YouTube will be up with his ‘tool’ in search of gold in Javelin. 11 other competitors are in the category.

Two hours later, the mother or runs will be staged at the Khalifa International Stadium when twenty-one (21) men will go down for 1000m final.

Three Kenyans Rodgers Kwemoi, Alex Korio and Phoenix Kipruto will be battling for the coveted gold. Notably, Kwemoi was the bronze medallist in the latter event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games while Kipruto is the 2018 10,000 metres World U20 champion and his 10 km road race personal best of 26:46 is the second-fastest time ever.

PHOTO | COURTESY |So far, Kenya is second on the medal table behind the United States. Kenya has a total of nine medals, four of which are gold and two silver. The first-placed USA has 25 medals; eleven gold, ten silver and four bronze.

This year’s IAAF World Athletics Championships started on Friday, September 27.
