Laikipia Governor has called on public servants in the National government and County to work in uniformity for effective service delivery.

Governor Ndiritu Muriithi observed that effective and coordinated public service was key to development in any country noting the economic success of the Asian Tigers was as achieved through result-oriented approach to public service in the respective countries.

Speaking Thursday when he co-chaired a meeting of National government departmental heads and those of his government with County Commissioner Daniel Nyameti, he noted that even though both administrations had clearly defined roles in service delivery, there was need to consult and cooperate in areas of mutual benefits to the citizenry.

“Some decades back Kenya was at par with the Asian Tigers but down the line the same Asian countries are far more developed than us because they revitalised their civil service to suit the desired needs of their citizens thus the speedy development. We should also adopt this style of service to Mwanachi,” he said.

The County Commissioner called for strengthening of the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) to give a strong foundation to the pupils as they transit to primary school.

“Education is one of the areas which we should work in very close cooperation with the county government since ECDE is devolved but the rest of the sector is still under the national government. Let’s see the ECDEs upgraded to provide quality and friendly education that will make the learners adopt a learning culture in early life,” the County Commissioner said.

County Director of Education Susan Murerwa said that her office was working closely with the administration and village elders to sensitize parents especially from pastoral areas on the need to take their children to school.

She cited Laikipia North Sub County where she said that enrollment to learning institutions was still low due to some cultural practices such as early marriages for girls.
