Jubilee Party Candidate McDonald Mariga has revealed the nitty-gritty of their meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to Kikuyu delegates at Deputy President William Ruto’s official residence in Karen, Nairobi, on Friday, Mariga said President Uhuru promised him the support of his Kikuyu nation.
The Jubilee candidate also claimed that President served him with water before handing the Jubilee branded cap to him to seek the Kibra seat
“I will talk about this cap a little bit. Do you know the person who gave me this cap? We were there with many leaders but President Uhuru called me aside and told me lets have a private talk.
He told me to have a seat and I sat, he brought a glass of water and he told that the first thing I should do is to call the Kikuyu community and have a talk with them because he is sure you won’t let me down. And I am sure you won’t let me down,” claimed Mariga.
Mariga was accompanied by Jubilee party leaders among them Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Starehe Constituency MP Charles Njagua, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa, Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie among others.
DP Ruto was also in attendance.
Mariga’s claims come at a time of simmering allegations of voter bribery and buying of electorates.
On Friday, One verified Twitter user, Lord Abraham Mutai, claimed that Kibra voters have been storming the DP’s residence to collect irregular daily payments linked to the Kibra race.
“Someone just sent me this photo taken outside William Ruto’s gate this morning. Kibra voters leaving DP’s Karen home after probably collecting daily payments. William Ruto is really corrupting our electoral system,” claimed Mutai.
Another user who commented on Mutai’s post shared a screenshot of a secret message sent to him by unknown sources indicating that the person was being invited at DP Ruto’s residence.
The message further urged the receiver to keep the message private and walk with the national ID for verification.
According to sources who spoke to this writer on condition of anonymity, on various visits that they had made to the DP’s residence, each walked away with at least Ksh500.
Important to note that the monies pocketed by the delegates were not verified as bribery or the usual ‘political token of appreciation.’
However, all these emerged as mere allegations which haven’t been substantiated so far.
