Engineer Loses Eye & Jaw After Getting Hit by Air Plane Propeller

A 26-year-old engineer was seriously injured after an air plane propeller blade hit and injured him while he was undertaking maintenance works on the aircraft.

Abdirahman Mohammed, who works with Freedom Airline at Wilson Airport, had his lower jaw chopped and suffered two compound fractures on his left arm.

His right eye was also chopped off.

The victim was admitted to the Nairobi South Hospital ICU.

According to police reports, Mohammed’s employer was hesitant to report the incident and it is only after reports by members of the public that the police learnt of the incident.

Meanwhile, two men are in police custody after being caught siphoning ethanol from a trailer to a canter lorry.

Acting on a public tip off, police traced the two vehicles to Kamandura area in Githunguri Division, Kiambu, and intercepted the trailer that is reported to have been on transit to Uganda with 2 drums of Ethanol on board, and the canter with 40 drums of the product loaded.

The drivers of the two vehicles, Edwards Ngure Njuguna and Duncan Mutuma Justus, attempted to flee the scene but police officers managed to arrest both.

The canter was secured on site awaiting investigations into the case.

In the neighbouring Machakos County, a 24-year-old shop attendant is nursing gunshot injuries after armed men raided his workplace Monday evening as he was retiring for the night.

Victor Opiyo was shot on the right ear, while closing RSM General Store Shop in Githunguri, by the robbers who were riding on a motorcycle.

The robbers then stole four mobile phones and Ksh 53,000 in cash.

Police recovered a spent cartridge of 7.62mm ammunition  on the scene.
