3 Police Officers Nabbed With 68 Bales of Bhang

Three police officers were on Wednesday arrested with 68 bales of bhang near Kanyonyoo Market along Garissa-Thika Highway.

The three, identified as Police Constable (PC) Japhet Fondo, PC Bob Otieno and APC Michael Mwangi, were caught during an operation by a multi-agency team that had been tipped off.

Information from the DCI revealed that the suspects were also in possession of Ksh 239,000, together with contraband milk powder, among other foodstuffs and laundry assortments.

Police reports further disclosed that the suspects were illegally transporting 6 bags of rice (300kgs), 2 bags of beans (100kgs) and 6 bags of sugar (25kgs), all labelled GOK.

Detectives from the DCI noted that the items were being transported by the three using a government vehicle.

On Tuesday, a prison warden was apprehended after he was found smuggling bhang and other contrabands into the facility.

The warden whose identity was not revealed was found with 675 kgs of bhang, male condoms, 40 mobile phones, 12 litres of chang’aa and Benzhexol drug.

Media reports stated that authorities at the prison had commenced investigations into the matter.

On Monday, chaos erupted at the prison after the inmates complained over a surprise search conducted by the wardens.

Kenya Prisons Service spokesman, Dickson Mwakazi, explained that the prisoners had boycotted breakfast in a bid to air their grievances.
