Governor Mutua Sues Senate Committee Over Arrest Warrant Issued

                      Machakos Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua

Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua has sued Public Accounts Investment Committee(PAIC) over an arrest warrant issued against him for failing to show up for the third time to answer audit queries.

“In the meantime, H.E the Governor has instructed his lawyers to move to court and quash this rather draconian decision,” partially read a statement from the governor.

Mutua said the Kajwang’-led committee decision to issue an arrest warrant against him was ridiculous adding that he was disturbed by media reports indicating the same.

This is because according to him after the committee had summoned him to appear before it on Monday 30, at the Machakos County Assembly Chambers, the clerk to PAIC allegedly called the Machakos Assembly Clerk and informed him that the Machakos sitting had been cancelled.

“True to this, the committee has not come to Machakos but met in Nairobi, ” Mutua said.

The governor said he read bad faith in the manner in which the Committee was handling its business, a statement he ostensibly directed to his Machakos counterpart, Boniface Kabaka,  the Senator of the county.

Kajwang’, however, refuted claims that the presence of Machakos Senator is malicious saying that it is his duty and right to be part of the committee.”

The governor of Machakos must be ready to answer questions from any senator who has been validly elected or nominated to this house,” said Kajwang’.

Earlier on in the day, the committee chair, Moses Kajwang’, asked the clerk to write to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to effect the arrest.

Mutua is on the spot over a Ksh35 million all-weather synthetic track that the auditor general said is already worn out less than a year since it was laid.

By June 2017, the county had paid Ksh25 million to the contractor.
