An elderly passenger died while another was left with multiple injuries after a Toyota Pickup in which they were travelling was involved in a grisly crash Saturday night.
The accident occurred at Karicheni area along the Nyeri-Nanyuki road.
According to police reports, the vehicle’s driver lost control after one of its tyres burst, causing it to roll twice before landing into a ditch.
One of the passengers, 40-year-old Joseph Ekwam, sustained serious injuries and succumbed while receiving treatment at the Nyeri Provincial General Hospital.
35-year-old James Miano, who was travelling in the same car sustained multiple injuries and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, a police officer is in critical condition at the Nyeri Provincial General Hospital after he was knocked down by a Toyota Fielder car at Kenyatta Road area near Barclays Bank, along the Nyeri-Karatina highway Saturday night.
IP Juma Kambi Mwachala, attached to NPC Main Campus Kiganjo, was walking in the company of three other colleagues when the vehicle which was headed towards Karatina from Nyeri veered off the road and hit him, leaving him with serious head injuries and fractured legs.
The case is still under investigation.
