It is reported that Sonko paid Ksh 860,000 to publish an advertisement in the Daily Nation, to respond to articles published by The Star and People Daily newspapers.
In the full page advertisement, the Nairobi County boss stated that he had to address the matter which is contrary to his behaviour.
“I am not usually in the habit of responding to everything and anything that mainstream media houses publish but I believe it is important to set the record straight on several issues in line with my unwavering commitment and dedication to transform Nairobi while remaining accountable to the electorate,” read part of the statement by Sonko.
Sonko pointed out that the newspapers were misinforming Kenyans after his decision to fire 16 officials including his top man Kerich.
” I was dismayed by the sensational headline of The Star newspaper dated Thursday September 26 claiming that my decision to suspended 16 officials in my administration including two Executive Committee Members was tantamount to plunging the Nairobi City County Government into chaos.
“At the very least, the story read like the workmanship of drowning individuals clutching on the straws, who have for many years benefitted from the chaos and impunity perpetuated by the Urban Planning Department,” remarked the Nairobi Governor.
On Wednesday, Governor Sonko suspended Kerich and company over the Precious Talents School tragedy.
He reiterated that the decision was to enable investigations to take place.
On the same day, he had stated that the title “Reign Chaos” on the Star newspaper was far fetched and exaggerated.
The controversial politician, on the other hand, explained that his move should not be criticized and that he is allowed to make changes to his government.
“Why didn’t the Star accuse President, Oparanya, Kimemia, Sang, Nyong’o, etc of “reign of chaos” after firing their CECs (let alone suspension) which is within their constitutional prerogative?
