Manchester United fans now want youngster Brandon Williams incorporated into the first team after his wonderful performance against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The United academy product came on as a second half substitute in place of Phil Jones and put in a good shift in the left-back position as United struggled to beat the league one side through post match penalties after a one-all draw in regulation time.
United have struggled with the left-back position since stalwart Patrice Evra quit in the club for Juventus in 2015. Luke Shaw, who was backed to his long term successor has struggled with injury and firm issues since he decamped the to Old Trafford from Southampton.
Club captain Ashley Young, who’s primarily a forward is the club’s second choice left-back and he too has struggled in the position severally.
Williams provided a glimpse of what the future holds if he lives to his potential. A stand out moment was when he recovered the ball from his own half and initiated an attack that led to Mason Greenwood’goal for United. Overall, he was solid both defensively and in attack.
United fans have now taken to social media to air their views on the young English defender with many asking the technical bench to field him ahead of Shaw and Young.
Don’t let that Greenwood finish take you away from the role Brandon Williams played in that goal. Won the ball back and drove the team forward. Love that!
