Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday announced the measures he would take after the Precious Talent School tragedy in Dagoretti.

Sources indicated that Sonko had cut short his trip to the UN General Assembly Conference in New York in respect of the school incident.

The County boss through a Facebook post promised to cater for the burial expenses of the eight pupils who lost their lives during the calamity.

“I wish to assure the parents and the entire Precious Talent School community of my personal support, and that of my administration, in laying to rest our departed children, treating the injured and also reconstructing the school to ensure minimal interruption to learning at the institution.” read a part of the post by the Nairobi Governor.

Sonko further reiterated that county officials responsible for the inspection of the school would be charged in court.

“As a government, we shall also pursue the prosecution of any official who shall be found culpable in these violations that have continued to cost human life, while endangering many more lives.” remarked Governor Sonko.

The controversial politician also revealed that he has been investigating rogue officers at the Nairobi City County Planning Department.

The tough-talking Sonko pointed to an audit that had been carried out which showed that on more than one occasion, the officers would switch off the digital system at City Hall to by-pass the official channel in issuing building approvals.

The once Nairobi Senator clarified that action had been taken last month against an officer identified as Justus Kathenge who was the County Chief Officer for Planning.

“I suspended the County Chief Officer for Planning, Mr. Justus Kathenge, who was singled out as the ring-leader of the unlawful and repugnant activities.

“In fact, he went ahead to lie to me that the system had been switched off by the World Bank when the audit commenced, an allegation that was refuted by the Bank, as they had handed full access and control over the system to the Planning Department,” stated Sonko.
