Lawyer Donald Kipkorir Cries Out After Failed Promotion

City Lawyer, Donald Kipkorir, on Tuesday, vowed to take action after he was denied the chance of receiving a promotion to a senior counsel.

Reports indicated that the embattled Kipkorir was planning to seek the help of Attorney General Paul Kihara after his application to be elevated to a senior level was rejected.

The controversial lawyer is alleged to have written to the AG questioning the criteria used to nominate 24 lawyers for the new position.

On Monday, his counterparts, who included Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, were among the lawyers shortlisted for the prestigious title.

Other legal representatives named for the post included Deputy DPP Dorcas Oduor, former Director of Public Prosecution Philip Murgor, former CEO of the defunct Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) Patricia Nyaundi and family lawyer Judy Thongori.

Veteran lawyers Prof Albert Mumma, John Ohanga, Kioko Kilukumi, Fred Ngatia, Rautta Athiambo, Waweru Gatonye and Wilfred Nderitu, were also part of the crop that is set to receive the advancement.

John Chigiti, Kiragu Kimani, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s former legal advisor Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed, Commission on Administrative Justice former chairman and Rarieda MP Otiede Amollo, Zehrabanu Janmohamed, Tail Ali Taib, Mohammed Nyaoga, Pravin Bowry, Fackson Kagwe and Parkash Nagpal complete the list.

The 24 had been shortlisted from a 90-man list that had presented their applications.

Chief Justice David Maraga is set to approve the final list which will later be handed over to President Uhuru Kenyatta for the final decision.

Upon approval, the list will be made public through gazettement.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) had in January 2018 and February 2019, invited lawyers who sought to be made senior counsels to apply for the positions.
