Reports have emerged on the intrigues surrounding the ‘successful’ deportation of a popular former footballer and Nairobi businessman.

Mr Ali Oumarou, the co-owner of posh Kiza nightclub is said to have left the country left Kenya on August 22 on a ‘business trip’ after Interior Ministry linked him to a chain of crimes in the city.

The wealthy businessman is said to be operating other high-end chains of Kiza Lounge in Canada, Dubai and Nigeria.

“His work permit had expired and we realised that he was part of an international criminal gang,” Wangui Muchiri, the spokesman at the Ministry said then.

However, Oumarou- a Niger citizen, is reported to have rubbished the claims by the Interior Ministry, saying they were nothing but rumours.

“I’m abroad doing some diplomatic training and yes I have seen what has been written. There are so many idlers in Nairobi,” said Mr Ali.

Before leaving Kenya in August, Oumarou is reported to have requested that his work permit be renewed for another two years, but the ministry dragged its feet.

He would later seek legal redress from the courts after getting wind the state may be getting ready to arrest and deport him.

It was here that Oumarou’s lawyer Stephen Gitonga learnt that a deportation order had been issued on his client and dated August 14.

Oumarou would flee the country a week later, with the Government saying he had successfully deported himself.

Oumarou still maintains that he is the honorary consul of the Republic of Niger in Kenya and enjoys diplomatic immunity.
