Gor Mahia are done with the local competition, at least for now, after they narrowly beat KCB in their Kenyan Premier League match played on Sunday in Machakos.

Head coach Steven Polack says his troop will now jump into rigorous preparation for their upcoming CAF Champions League return leg against Algerian side USM Alger slated for Sunday, September 29 at Kasarani stadium.

K’Ogalo registered a terrible 4-1 fall to the Algerian outfit during their first leg played away, and coach Polack knows too well how any small lapse can see the 18-time league champions bundled out of the continental showpiece.

His main job is to ensure that all mistakes realized in their league match against KCB be rectified in time before meeting USM Alger. K’Ogalo must win by at least 3-0 at home in order to proceed to the next stage of the tournament.

“Everyone knows our next game, and how it is important to us. We have to improve on our performance especially going by this match’s second half (referring to the match against KCB). We can’t play this way on Sunday. We’re still going to improve on a few aspects of our game so as to hopefully get ready for the Sunday match,” he said.

Back at home, the club leaves behind six points at position three, behind joint leaders Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari FC who have seven points apiece. However, Gor Mahia still have a match at hand against Chemelil Sugar, who were walloped 4-0 by Sofapaka on Sunday, September 22.
