Gor Mahia Defender Pleads For Medical Assistance

Gor Mahia defender Shafik Batambuze is fundraising to enable him to undergo an Anterior Cruciate Ligament corrective surgery.

The Ugandan picked an injury towards the end of the 2018/19 season and was sidelined for a couple of months. He returned to action three weeks ago during a Caf Champions League match against Burundian side, Aigle Noir but didn’t last as he hobbled off injured.

It has been confirmed that he has a slight ACL tear and will now have to go under the knife. The player is now calling on wellwishers to fund his surgery as he claims Gor Mahia isn’t in a position to pay for the procure right now owing to financial challenges the team is facing.

“I understand that the club is having financial problems, but I need this surgery so that I can play again. This situation is taking a toll on me. I call upon wellwishers to come to my aid, any financial assistance will be appreciated,” he said.

This comes weeks after winger Curtis Wekesa pleaded for help to undergo surgery. Gor swang into action and paid for the procedure. Defender Philemon Otieno is also in limbo as he requires a similar surgery but his club and FKF are at loggerheads on who should foot the bill as the player picked the injury while on national duty.

Opera News understands that a group of his friends in Kampala, Uganda are set to organize a fundraiser to help cater for the cost of the procedure.
