Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has blasted the Tanga tanga team as a weak group that cannot survive without President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Wambugu, a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto, Tanga tanga begged President Kenyatta to endorse MacDonald Mariga, the Jubilee Candidate in Kibra by-elections.

The vocal Kieleweke member said Ruto’s team could not afford to go to an election without Uhuru’s endorsement despite claiming that he (Uhuru) is a lame-duck President.

“This is important as there are those in TangaTanga who were behaving as if they no longer need Uhuru; and even going as far as to claim Uhuru is now a lame-duck President. If they believed it they would not have fought so hard to get this ‘unveiling’, nor would they be getting this excited that they (finally) got it,” read the statement.

Wambugu accused Ruto’s team of using Uhuru’s endorsement to push back some of them.

“It feels like a big win for them and it is brilliant PR. They are also using it to push back against those of us who have been arguing that TangaTanga must respect the President,” he said.

He insisted that the team should henceforth appreciate that Uhuru is fully in charge, both in the party and as President.

The MP urged Ruto’s team to behave with decorum in Kibra reminding them that the contest was not going to destroy the handshake in any way.

“Now we know that they know that Uhuru is fully in charge, both in the party and as President. We expect them to sustain this respect for Uhuru, at all times.

But we also expect them to behave with decorum in Kibra. Let them understand that this contest in Kibra will not destroy the handshake as they would like. The handshake is here to stay.”

Despite being a Jubilee member, Wambugu has been poking holes on Mariga’s candidature.

Recently he warned the party against issuing the former Inter Milan midfielder with a certificate because his age paradox was going to expose the party in bad light.
