Elgeyo Marakwet Senator said on Thursday that he would not be cowed by calls for his resignation as Senate Majority Leader over his comments criticising President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to revoke the construction of Kimwarer Dam.

Kipchumba Murkomen was responding to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria call for him to resign as the Leader of Majority of the Senate following his comments that appeared to target a certain community.

On a Facebook post, Murkomen took issue with the composition of members of the committee tasked with assessing the viability of Kimwarer and Arror Dam projects.

Murkomen said: “It is a shame that Maringa, Matu, Mwangi and Muiruri who have no knowledge or attachment to the region have misled the President. The technical committee did not consult anyone neither did they carry out any public participation”.

While responding to Kuria, Murkomen stated: “Despite the insults from Moses Kuria I remain adamant that the so-called technical committee has failed the President and the people of Kenya and Elgeyo Marakwet County on Arror and Kimwarer Dams”.

Murkomen called on the President to constitute a transparent team that is national to look at all projects in Kenya.

The outspoken Senator said that he had the right to criticise Uhuru’s actions.

“I can’t watch the head of state misadvised and keep quiet. Kenyans will remember me for this when the noise is over and the dust settles. We shall continue to agitate for the rights of the people who elected us. It’s the right thing to do and we shall do everything to ensure justice is done,” he said.

The Senator added that the only winner of the President’s action is Italian CMC Di Ravenna which the government contracted to do the projects.

“CMC Di Ravenna will reap billions of money from the breach of contract”

On Wednesday Murkomen alleged that plans had been hatched all along to kill the projects, which are now a cen

“The report of cancellation of Kimwarer Dam and restructuring of Arror dam does not come to me as a surprise. As I have always said the plan all along was to kill the projects”.

The Senator said they are, “ Consulting as the people of Elgeyo Marakwet County and we shall do everything in our abilities to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done to our people”.
