A school headteacher in Machakos County has committed suicide by hanging himself inside his house.
The body of Michael Musau, the headteacher of Kyambuko Primary School, was found Wednesday dangling from a rope at his house in Misakwani village, Mumbuni location.
According to Misakwani sub-location assistant chief, Christine Musau, the body of the deceased, believed to be in his early 40s, was found by fellow teachers, who became suspicious when he failed to report to work.
Musau said the teacher did not leave behind any suicide note and it was unclear what might have led him to take his own life.
Police who arrived at the scene hours later only recovered an undisclosed amount of money stuffed inside an envelope and a cell phone belonging to the deceased.
It is not yet clear whether the headteacher was living alone in the house, but police are carrying out investigations as to ascertain what led to the tragic incident.
“We are yet to unravel what led the deceased into taking his own life as no suicide note was found in the house. But investigations are underway to unravel the reason behind the incident,” stated the chief.
The body was later moved to the Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, the number of suicide cases in the county has been on an upward trajectory since last year, leaving citizens in utter shock.
In July this year, the body of a 35-year-old woman was found hanging from the roof of a bar in Kivaa market, Masinga Sub County, Machakos County.
The body of the woman, who was the proprietor of the bar, was discovered by her workers as they were reporting to work. The incident was confirmed by Masinga sub-county Police boss Francis Siror.
Again only last month, a 42-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree at his home in Kaewa village, in the same sub-county.
The body of the deceased, said to be of an unstable mind, was discovered by a census enumerator who had visited the homestead.
Area assistant chief Josphat Muli said they were yet to know the reason why the man chose to end his life but confirmed that the victim was mentally disturbed prior to the incident.
