Kisii University Inducts 1st Batch Surgery Students

Residents of Kisii have a reason to smile after Kisii University inducted the first batch of students enrolled for Bachelor of Surgery course, according to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with the county government.

The 40 undergraduate students are among others who had joined the Faculty of Science in the university this year.

Addressing the media after the induction, the institution’s vice-chancellor, Prof. John Akama, disclosed that they will hire medical experts to man the faculty.

Prof. Akama said the university needed to recruit competent lecturers with international recognition owing to the state-of-the-art medical equipment installed at the university and teaching hospital.

Kisii Governor, James Ongwae, vowed to continue in relentlessly supporting the students of the faculty of science.

The University had been faced by financial challenges until it decided to close a number of its satellite campuses.

Before the closure, the institution had more than 13 satellite campuses but has since shut down about 10 of them and merged others.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha praised Kisii University for shutting down some of its satellite campuses that were not viable.

Prof Magoha added that he was involved in solving challenges that were facing the university since 2016.
