It is a beautiful sunny morning, we hope this reflects your mood. It might not be so bright for a section of ODM members and the Jubilee faction of Kieleweke. This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed MacDonald Mariga for the Kibra seat on Wednesday.

Uhuru, the Jubilee Party leader, met the former Harambee Stars midfielder at State House in Nairobi on Wednesday and assured him of his support in the race. The move has not gone down well with ODM members who believe the President is undermining the handshake with ODM leader, Raila Odinga.

However, some political analysts believe the president endorsed Mariga, a candidate many believe is being pushed by Ruto, to calm political temperatures after cancelling the construction of the Kimwarer Dam.

Handshake in Jeopardy as Uhuru Backs Mariga

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Jubilee Candidate in Kibra by-elections MacDonald Mariga

President Uhuru Kenyatta has endorsed footballer McDonald Mariga’s candidature in the Kibra by-election in a surprise move that now complicates the contest.

The move could raise the temperatures in the campaigns, as Jubilee and Odinga’s ODM will have to face off in a major battle that will test the March 9, 2018 handshake.
