Celtic FC coach Neil Lennon has admitted that his side tried to re-sign Victor Wanyama during the summer and that the Scottish giants will attempt to get him during the January 2020.

Wanyama was heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham in August after falling out of favor at the North London club following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon. The Kenyan international was expected to join Belgium side, Club Brugge but he failed to agree on personal terms with the side and had to remain at Spurs.

Celtic was said to be another possible destination but nothing concrete came of the reports that linked the defensive midfielder with a move back to Celtic Park and reports indicate that Spurs will try to offload the player in January.

Lennon who signed Wanyama from Belgian side, Beerschot A.C in 2011 before the midfielder left for Southampton two years later has revealed that they were interested in the player in January. He further stated that they will try to bring him on board in January although he admitted it may not be challenging due to affordability and squad balance.

“There was interest but it never got off the ground. Could we look at it again in January? We’ll have to wait and see. We might not want to with the balance of the squad now, as well as the affordability,” he said.
