Kisumu Women Rep Rosa Buyu on Tuesday pointed out that the IEBC would be forced to make changes following the clearance of Macdonald Mariga.

During an interview on Citizen TV’s Day Break, Rosa claimed that the electoral body would have to apply the same approach to those voters whose names are not in the voters register.

She pointed out that IEBC will have to allow the voters to go ahead and participate in the democratic process as show of equality.

“IEBC has set a precedence and will have to allow those who have registered as voters and have slips, but their names do not appear on the register to vote.” remarked Rosa.

The politician however condemned the decision by IEBC to lock out the people of Kibra from registering as voters and allowed Mariga to vie for a seat in a region different from the area he had registered for.

“Mariga has never bothered to register as a voter in this county and therefore has never voted.

“The only reason he registered is because he wanted to vie in Kibra. Is that really the spirit of the law?” questioned Rosa.

In a different interview, Dr Eseli Simiyu alleged that the go ahead issued to Mariga was due to pressure inflicted on the Wafula Chebukati led team.

Simiyu reiterated that the elections body was not independent as required by law.

“IEBC is supposed to be independent, it’s never been” remarked the former Tongaren MP.

His comments were echoed by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi who highlighted that IEBC needed to have things in order before carrying out its work.

“The culprit for messing up elections has always been IEBC.”

“We should act proactively to get IEBC to clean itself up and reconstitute it.” stated Wamatangi.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday revealed that the reason the footballer was allowed to compete for the position was due to a change in the elections law.

According to Murkomen, the change had been made through a parliamentary committee.

“After 2016 NASA protests Parliamentary Committee was formed chaired by Orengo&Kiraitu. I was a member.

We changed election laws to make it easy to register voters&reverse K.Kilonzo case. We segregated registers&Introduced electronic registers,” highlighted the Senate Majority Leader.
