Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri has claimed that the first handshake between Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto only brought peace to the Rift Valley region.

Speaking on Sunday night when he appeared for K24 Tv Punchline show, Ngunjiri maintained that Uhuru, Ruto pact in 2013 only brought cohesion between the two communities living in the Rift Valley but did not necessarily do much to the rest of the country.

Ngunjiri who was justifying the need for the March 2018 handshake between President Uhuru and ODM leader  Raila Odinga stated that the rest of Kenya had felt left out in the first handshake hence the need for a second handshake.

“The first handshake didn’t do much for Nairobi, Mombasa and even Western province. We just had a situation where Kikuyus and Kalenjins in Rift Valley were living harmoniously.

The next elections we had chaos in most parts of the country. This tells you the handshake had only worked for one region” claimed Ngunjiri.

Asked about the current relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, the vocal MP sensationally claimed that the working relationship between the two is non-existent.

He cited several instances where the Deputy President has launched projects without the presence of senior government officials.

The MP threw jabs at Ruto claiming that despite assurances from President Kenyatta of his support in 2022, the DP had embarked on early campaigns three years to the next election.

“Campaigns are divisive. They are made to divide people so that to get some people to support you. Look at central province right now, the only reason we are fighting because we talking about Ruto’s 2022 presidential campaign,” observed Wambugu.

He added that Ruto was undermining and disobeying the President through his early campaigns.

The legislator also noted that the unity and survival of the Jubilee Party beyond 2022 “entirely depends” on the actions of DP Ruto going forward.

Ngunjiri has been leading a group of leaders under the ‘Kieleweke’ tag which is against Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
