Gor Mahia Forward Focusing on Recuperation After Surgery, Eyes a Strong Return

Gor Mahia winger Curtis Wekesa underwent a successful Anterior Cruciate Ligament surgery and is now focused on his recovery as he eyes a stronger return from the setback.

Wekesa picked the injury at his former club, Nairobi Stima last season before decamping to Gor Mahia. What he thought was a minor problem proved to be a total ACL tear and he will now be on the sidelines for 6-9 months.

He went under the knife a few days ago and the Kenya U23 winger says he wants to come back stronger from the dreaded ACL tear.

“I want to thank everyone who stood by me to ensure that I underwent the surgery, may God bless them all abundantly. The process was successful and my focus now is on recovery, I want to come back stronger and better,” he told Opera News.

Wekesa will not be part of Gor Mahia’s squad this season as his recovery could take up to a year and he has taken time to wish his teammates well.

” I want to wish my teammates all the best this season. We have a good team with quality players and I believe that they will deliver more trophies this season,” he added.

Meanwhile Gor Mahia will leave for Algeria on Saturday ahead of their Caf Champions first round, first leg match against USM Alger that’s scheduled for Sunday in Algiers.

This comes after the club managed to secure air tickets from the ministry of sports after a prolonged push and pull.
