The Kenyan Premier League match pitting AFC Leopards against Kariobangi Sharks will now be played, on Sunday, at the Moi International Sports Centre-Kasarani, not Nyayo National stadium as had been announced previously.

This is the second change of venue for the much-awaited match and an interesting turn of events which has brought the clash to its original schedule.

KPL management had previously pinned the match at Kasarani before it was momentarily moved to the ‘ever-closed’ Nyayo, and now hosts AFC Leopards have announced, without giving reasons, that the clash has been brought back to Kasarani.

“Our second Kenya Premier League match of the season vs Kariobangi Sharks will be played at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani and not Nyayo National Stadium as earlier communicated,” they tweeted.

Kariobangi Sharks have also confirmed the development. “There has been a venue change for our match against AFC Leopards scheduled to be played on 15th of September 2019 at Kasarani stadium, it has instead been moved to Nyayo stadium and will be played at 3 pm 15th of September 2019,” they said.

Football fans were excited with the idea of moving the tie to Nyayo stadium, leading to remarkable hype which came with the fact that Nyayo has been closed for renovation since 2017. Many people expected to see how the government has transformed the 30,000-seater premise but it is now clear that the wait continues.

It will be fascinating to find out the real reason for closing the stadium further, especially after Kenyans reacted over photos of the stadium which leaked during the 2019 World Athletic Championships trials on Thursday.

“We are grateful for all the hype and publicity you gave the match at Nyayo Stadium. We urge you to turn up in numbers at Kasarani on Sunday at 3.00pm,” AFC Leopards wrote.

Tickets for the match trades at Sh500 (VIP) and Sh200 (Terraces).
