Pilot, two others arrested over Equity Bank’s stolen money

Police in Moyale have arrested three suspects following a robbery incident on Wednesday where an unknown amount of money belonging to Equity bank was stolen at the Oddha airstrip.

According to the Kenya News Agency, the three suspects are the air craft pilot, co-pilot and a security officer from the Wells Fargo Security Company.

While confirming the incident that occurred yesterday at 4.00 pm, Marsabit County Police Commander, Ambrose Steve Oloo said an aeroplane from Nairobi landed at the Oddha airstrip at 4.00 pm with three people aboard namely Alex Kirate (pilot), John Onunga (co-pilot) and Nelson Lang’at (Security officer Wells Fargo Security Company) carrying an unknown amount of money from the Equity Bank headquarters, Nairobi.

The Police Commander said after landing, the pilot opened the door of the aircraft and alighted to go and check the remaining fuel in the aircraft.

In the process three strangers emerged one armed with a pistol and ordered the three to lie down forcing the pilot to open the door where they took two sacks of cash and sped away in a motor bike which had been parked near the airstrip.

He said no one was injured during the incident and that the aircraft has not been released adding the three officers have been arrested saying the remaining sack of money has been taken by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for further investigations.
