A section of the busy Thika Superhighway is set to be closed for two days to allow ongoing constructions.

A public notice issued by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) stated that city-bound expressway will be inaccessible at Allsops, on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.

KURA explained that the closure was to facilitate the installation of beams on the ongoing construction of the Outer Ring overpass.

The road authority pointed out that motorists using the route will use the service lanes as directed by the traffic marshals.

Additional information highlighted that the remaining section of the outbound expressway would be closed the following week.

“Please further note that the remaining section of the outbound expressway will be closed on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September and motorists will use the service lanes as directed by traffic marshals.

“It is advisable for motorists to use alternative routes to reduce congesting the service lanes. The closure will commence from 6 am to 6 pm,” read a part of the notice.

In April, the junction linking Outer Ring Road and the highway was closed for three months.

The closure was as a result of the construction of a new flyover in a bid to improve traffic flow between the two roads.

A section of the highway near the GSU headquarters was one of the areas identified as a notorious point for constant traffic snarl-ups.
