Bandari FC head coach Bernard Mwalala says his side will be out to secure a first leg win when they take on Tunisian side, Union Sportive De Ben Guedane in a Caf Confederation Cup second round first leg match at the end International Sports Center Kasarani.

The Mombasa based team secured the first-round ticket when they saw off Sudan’s Al Ahly Shendi in the preliminary round on a 1-1 aggregate. Bandari was held a barren draw in Nairobi before forcing a one-all draw in Sudan to secure passage to the CAF CC first-round for the first time in their history.

Up next is a match against a Tunisian powerhouse. Bandari start at home before meeting the side again in a fortnight in Tunis.

Speaking ahead of the match, Mwalala, a former Nzoia Sugar FC tactician said the target is to get a home win that will give them an edge heading to the second leg.

“The target here is to win at home because that gives you an advantage. In continental games performing at home is very important and that’s what we have been working towards. Teams from the North are always tough to beat but we’ve seen Gor Mahia defeat giants like Zamalek here in Nairobi and so I believe it’s something we can achieve if we give our best on Saturday, ” he told Opera News.

On his team’s readiness, the former Kenyan international said the team has been preparing well and that he doesn’t have any fresh injury concern. Only Bernard Odhiambo and Mustafa Oduor are unavailable for the match due to injuries.

“Preparations have been good, the boys are in good spirits. We do not have any other injury concern as of now. Only Mustafa and Bernard are out. The rest of the players are available for the game,” he added.

The match will kick off at 3 PM.
