The ODM Party (ODM) has warned celebrated football star MacDonald Mariga to prepare for a tough battle in the forthcoming Kibra by-elections.

The Party led by its leader Raila Odinga issued a certificate to its candidate Imran Okoth on Tuesday. Imran, who is the brother to former Kibra MP Ken Okoth will face off with Jubilee’s Mariga in the November 7 poll.

ODM’s Director of Elections Junet Mohammed is confident that they will win the elections because  ODM is the only party that conducted credible party nominations.

He claimed Jubilee’s Mariga and Alliance National Party’s Eliud Owalo were handpicked by their respective parties.

“Kile chama ambacho kimefanya nominations nchini katika uchaguzi huu wa Kibra ni ODM; wale wengine hawakufanya nominations…walifanya selection! Nawaambia Jubilee, ANC, Tangatanga na hao wengine wajitayarishe kwani Kibra ni ODM” Junet said.

In a rare show of unity, all the 10 candidates who participated in the nominations were present at the event. They said they are united behind the winner Okoth.

Raila made all the losers in the nomination exercise shake hands with Okoth.

“We are here to support one of us who was nominated. We shall give him unequivocal support” Peter Orero said.

Bernard Musungu, also one of the losers, in a tirade directed at Mariga, declared that Kibra is for Kibra people.

In an appeal that has since been withdrawn, one of the Jubilee’s aspirant for the seat, Moses Peter Kinyajui, claimed that Mariga is not a registered voter.

“To make matters worse, the said selected person is not a resident or a voter of Kibra constituency and there are serious doubts whether or not he has ever voted,” he protested.

“His candidature will be an impossible sell to the people of Kibra given the calibre of MP we had in the immediate past.”
