Alfred Mutua Shares Cute Photo in Mitumba While at Kawangware

Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua was recently on social media to share his tough journey before becoming a prominent politician.

Mutua confessed how he was bred from poverty but got a scholarship which saw him leave his parents at a very young age. Though worth millions now, the Governor further revealed his harsh days while living in Kawangware in muddy houses and saw him dress in mitumba attires.

“As a younger man of 21/22 while a student in Washington State, USA on scholarship,”  the governor captioned an image of himself as a young man on Facebook.

“God has really blessed me. I left my parents and sister Anne in a wooden shack with soil flooring and a tricky pit-latrine outside (Riruta Satelite/ Kawangware) and travelled to the United States (wearing Mitumba clothes from Gikomba) to study so that I could change Kenya for the better. Praise be to God.”

Mutua studied at Dagoretti Highschool and Jamhuri High school for his O and A levels respectively. He then obtained his BA in Journalism from Whitworth College in the United States and his MSc in Communication from Eastern Washington University.

He received his doctorate in communication and media from the University of Western Sydney in Australia. After returning to Kenya, he was then appointed as the first official government spokesperson of Kenya on June 2004, until 2012 where he moved to politics.
