ODM Cracks Whip on Embattled Kisumu County Speaker Oloo

Two days after police in Mombasa arrested Kisumu County speaker Onyango Oloo in connection to over Sh2.5 billion LBDA mall scandal, Kisumu County has settled on another acting speaker.

On Monday, ODM settled on Eng Elisha Oraro, MCA North Kisumu Ward, as the acting Speakerpending a court case facing the embattled county’s speaker Onyango Oloo.

Mr. Oloo, who was being sought by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over a stalled project at Lake Basin Mall Scandal, was put in police custody after presenting himself to Central Police Station in Mombasa at around 2pm Saturday.

His arrest came after Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji gave orders following the conclusion of investigations by a team from his and EACC last week.


According to the DPP, Erdemann Properties Ltd directors gave George Onyango Oloo who is the LBDA Board chairman a total of Sh17 million, apartments and shops in bribes.

He was charged at Nairobi anti-corruption court was freed on a cash bail of Ksh.6 million while others who were arrested among him including Mr. Abuok and Mr. Momanyi were each released on Ksh.10 million cash bail.

They were all charged with offences of engaging in a project without prior planning, willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement as well as abuse of office among other charges.

The prosecution has revealed that it is planning to call at least 65 witnesses to testify against the accused persons.
