President Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated his support for the handshake saying it will he help heal the country.
The President made the remarks on Friday in a consultative meeting with leaders from Coast at State House Mombasa.
“The essence of handshake is not about who shall be where and who shall have what position, and who shall do what” he said.
Kenyatta added that Kenya should learn from its past and forge unity for future prosperity
“There are many things that we will be able to achieve…How can we as Kenyans together not live in the past but learn from it”.

The President’s remarks were directed at the critics of the handshake who regard it as a plan to introduce the position of Prime Minister.
On Tuesday, the Uasin Gishu County Assembly passed Third Way Alliance’s Puguza Mzigo Bill, which seeks to trim the number of political representatives in the country.
Apart from introducing a one-term 7-year presidency, the bill also seeks to reduce the size of Parliament from 416, to 147, and convert the existing 47 counties into units for election to the Senate and National Assembly.
It also seeks to address gender inequality in representation and ensure Kenyans elect one man and one woman from each of the 47 counties into the National Assembly.
