Nairobi Women’s Hospital, on Friday, mourned the death of the doctor who lost his life on the way to save a pregnant woman.
The hospital, through a statement, stated that the body of the deceased had been moved to Thika MKU funeral home as the family made burial arrangements.
Felix Wanjala, who is the CEO at the health institution, passed his condolences to the family of the deceased identified as Dr Edward Were.
According to the hospital, Were had served as a Gynecologist at the Rongai branch before the unfortunate incident.
On Wednesday, the late Were was involved in a head-on collision along the Eastern By-pass at around 2 am.
He had been driving from Ruiru to Rongai where the lady was situated to perform a cesarean operation.
Reports by an eye witness narrated that the hardworking health worker died on the spot and his body was later taken from the scene by an ambulance.
Sources had pointed out that Were used to work privately at an unnamed hospital in Embu.
Another medical doctor was, however, sent to the home of the lady to help in the delivery process as informed by KPMDU Secretary-General, Nairobi branch, Dr Thuranira Kaugiria.
“The new-mother had a successful delivery via c-section, and her baby is also fine,” remarked the Secretary-General.
