A lawmaker on Wednesday called for Deputy President William Ruto to take action over a viral clip that surfaced on social media.

Through a Facebook post, Nyeri MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu, asked the DP to have a woman arrested over incitement.

Wambugu called for Ruto to respond over the matter highlighting that such utterances could spark an ethnic war.

According to the clip, the woman claimed that the Kalenjin people residing in Mt Kenya region had been asked to vacate the area and move back to their ethnic region.

The furious lady further added that the same measure should be applied on the Kikuyu people living in Molo town.

“Sisi tulitoka upande wa Bomet, Narok na Molo. Wakikuyu pia wanaishi Molo. Tukisema tutoke hapa tuende upande wa Molo, Wakikuyu wanafaa watoke Molo warudi kwao. Hiyo naona ni kitu ya haki kwa vile sisi tulinunua kama vile hao huko Molo walinunua. Tuko na genuine title deeds na tulinunua kwa mali yetu na haki yetu (We came from Bomet, Narok and Molo. Kikuyus also live in Molo. If we are being asked to leave here to go back to Molo, the same should apply to the Kikuyu people in Molo town. This is fair because we bought land here in the same way they bought land there. We have genuine title deeds which we acquired with our own money and in the right manner),” stated the lady.

The Nyeri legislator reiterated that Ruto should publicly rebuke the lady and distance himself from such remarks.

“Let us hear you publicly rebuking and condemning this woman and ordering the police to arrest her.

“Let us also see and hear you publicly disassociating yourself and the entire Kalejin political leadership from such warlike voices,” remarked Wambugu.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome, however, disregarded Wambugu’s claims that the Deputy President should be involved in the matter.

Wahome pointed out that the DP represented the country and not the region and that the MP’s request should also be addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Let me educate you on this; The Deputy President represents a country and not a region, just like the President. If you have to ask for his say, you have to request for the president’s too because the president does not represent a region or a community,” asserted Wahome.

She added that the vocal MP should stop using the clip as a weapon in politics.

“This is a serious issue about cohesion and you should refrain from using it as a tool of politicking and inciting,” stated Wahome.

The tough-talking Wahome also mentioned that such issues could not be solved with the approach taken by the Nyeri town leader.

“We can’t solve issues in Kenya with such tribal approaches.

“We have a big problem of people thriving in controversy and negativity; a life of ‘Baaaas, wacha tuone vile watajitoa hapa sasa’ (Let us see how they remove themselves from this)” affirmed the Kandara MP.
