Zoo FC head coach Herman Iswekha was left elated after his side began the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win over Chemelil Sugar on Sunday 1st September at Kericho Green Stadium.
A second-half brace from Kepha Ondati and another goal from Derrick Anami ensured that the Kericho based side registered a comfortable win over the Francis Baraza coached side in a pulsating clash.
It was the first time that Zoo has registered a win in their opening match of the season. The other three seasons that they have been in the league, they ended up losing all their openers, in 2017, for example, they lost the opening five matches.
In an interview, Iswekha who has been the club since its inception praised his players and added that the win gives his side the much-needed punch heading into future assignments.
“I am happy. It was important to win our first game of the seasons because in all our seasons in KPL we’ve never registered a win in the season opener, it gives us good momentum. The boys played really well from the first to the last minute, the opponents frustrated us especially in the first half but the boys kept pressing and finally, the first goal came. After that, I think it was a little easier because the boys went all out. It’s just the first game of the season and so we have to keep working hard in each and every game,” he told Opera News.
Next for Zoo is an away much against Bandari in Mombasa.
