Chemelil Sugar FC head coach Francis Baraza has admitted that his side got punished for individual mistakes they made in the 3-1 defeat by Zoo FC at Kericho Green Stadium on Sunday, September 1.s
The Millers suffered a defeat in the hands of the Kericho-based side in their opening match of 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League season. Coincidentally, it was Zoo’s first day one win since they got promoted to KPL in 2016.
Kepha Ondati was the star of the duel bagging a brace while Derrick Anami scored the other goal for the hosts. Rashid Athuma scored the consolation goal for Baraza’s side.
Speaking to Opera News, Baraza stated that his side played well overall but admitted that they went down due to individual mistakes at the back and in the attack.
“I think we got punished for the mistakes we made. The match was more or less balanced but we erred and we paid for it. We created many chances which we failed to utilize and they got there’s and scored goals. Also, all the three goals came as a result of mistakes in our defense, we made defensive blunders and they scored goals, we now go back to the drawing board and plan again,” he said.
The Millers lost key players to other teams due to financial challenges and were forced to recruit young players but Baraza believes his young troops will deliver.
“I am not worried at all. These players are good, what they lack is a top-flight experience that will come with more games. They played very well against Zoo and I am calm, the results will come,” the former Kenyan international added.
Chemelil will host League leaders Gor Mahia in their second match of the campaign on 14th September at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
