Nzoia Sugar  FC head coach Collins ‘Korea’ Omondi is optimistic about a better future even after being held to a draw by Wazito FC  in the opening match of 2019/20 campaign on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium.

Korea’s side stunned the Kenyan Premier league moneybags when they went ahead through Collins Wakhunguwho fired home from a Robert Arrot cross in the 54th minute.

But Elvis Rupia, who was introduced to the action in the second half, denied his former club victory by leveling the score through a penalty after Chris Wesamba handled the ball in the box.

After the 1-1 draw away, Korea lauded his side for the performance but believes that there are a lot of improvements needed for the Bungoma-based millers.

“We appreciate that one point. The team is still new and we are in the process of building the squad. We have not co-operated as we are ought to but we appreciate the one point and consider it a plus because it’s better than defeat.

“There are still many matches left in the league and we need improvements because we got tired in the second half and could not add a second goal or defend the one we had. I still cannot be happy because there lots of adjustments needed for my side,” stated Korea.

Asked about his young, new players’ performance, the former Kariobangi Sharks assistant coach expressed how delighted he was with the young stars and particularly his new signing Rama Mwenda.

“I have to confirm that I included more than 7 young, new players, who played for the first time in the KPL and the result shows that potential and a bright future with the Kenyan football as long as they work hard,” he continued.

About central back Rama Mwenda, Korea said: “Mwenda was introduced to me by a friend and he came at a time when we needed a stopper. I wasn’t happy with him at first sight, but his first training totally changed my perception. His first match against Western Stima earned him a call to the first team. He is a young man with a bright future.”

Nzoia Sugar will welcome their fellow millers from Awendo, Sony Sugar at Sudi Stadium on Saturday 14th September from 3.00 pm EAT.
