Kenyan Premier League giants, AFC Leopards are set to further beef their squad with four new players ahead of the 2019/20 season that kicks off on Friday afternoon.
Ingwe has already recruited eleven players but after a dismal show during pre-season, the club has decided to splash the cash in search of quality players to stabilize the team for the 2019/20 campaign.
Harambee Stars winger Paul Were is set for a third stint with the club. The speedster rejoined Leopards in March 2019 on a short-term deal and the club announced his departure at the end of 2018/19 season. He is however back in training with Leopards and is expected to ink a new deal.
Ingwe is also closing in on former Nairobi City Stars and Ulinzi Stars forward, John Mark Makwatta, the striker has been in talks with the club and Casa Mbungo’s side will be hoping to tie down the clinical forward. The striker is a free agent parting ways with Kuwaiti side, Al Nasr. He joined the Asian side from Zambian club, Buildicon in 2018.
Mathare United winger Kevin Kimani is also expected to join the Ingwe revolution. Kimani briefly joined Leopards in 2017 before leaving the club less than a month later for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazem F.C. The former Tusker and Sofapaka winger has already agreed on personal terms with Ingwe.
Completing the list is Ushuru FC left-back Evans Maliachi. The former Kakamega Homeboyz and Sofapaka man tried out with Leopards in 2017 but failed to secure a move. He impressed for the taxmen last season and he is now set to secure a move to the den.
“It’s true we are interested in the four players. Were, for example, is already training with the team and he will rejoin us. We hope to complete all the deals before the transfer window closes,” a source from the den told opera News.
