Nyeri County Speaker, John Kaguchia, has rubbished claims that the county assembly on Wednesday rejected Thirdway Alliance’s Punguza Mizigo draft bill.

In a video shared by Party Leader Eukuru Aukot, Kaguchia announced that the draft bill debate is still on as the legislators will first have to consult with residents before announcing their stand in October.

Kaguchia was speaking on Wednesday after the Punguza Mizigo campaign proponent, Dr. Aukot,  presented the bill in the 46-member assembly.

“The decision will be made by the assembly in October. But we are first focusing on educating and consulting with the residents on the draft bill and we will have our final say afterwards,” Speaker Kaguchia said.

His remarks came after Kirinyaga Governor Ann Mumbi claimed that Nyeri MCAs had rejected the bill. Waiguru said that Mt. Kenya will only support the Building Bridges Initiative.

“As I’ve said before, Mt Kenya is fully in support of BBI as evidenced today in Nyeri where the bill presented by Ekuru Aukot has been rejected by the whole assembly. Nyeri County has set the precedence, other counties are most likely to follow. These are signs of the times ahead,” Waiguru said.
