Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu has joined Swedish top tier side IF Elfsborg from American side Real Monarchs. The central defender was one of Kenya’s positives from this year’s Africa Cup Of Nations tournament held in Egypt.
The 22-year-old started his football career at Kakamega High School and helped the Green Commandos win the National title in 2014. He then moved to Chemelil Sugar in 2015 where his impressive performances earned him a move to South African club Free State Stars and later American side AFC Ann Arbor.
Okumu made his big move when he signed for United Soccer League side Real Monarchs on August 16th, 2018. He was selected in Sebastian Migne’s Harambee Stars AFCON squad and was one of the few positives to take of the rather disappointing tournament from a Kenyan perspective.
