Yusuf Mainge has penned down an emotional message to AFC Leopards as he embarks on a new career journey with Slovakian club FK Pohronie. The right-back was on trial at the club, passed and has been awarded a contract.
Mainge was fresh from high school when Ingwe signed him and drafted him into their first-team squad. The 23-year-old was playing for Kakamega High Scholl when Leopards came calling in 2017. He was selected for this years Harambee Stars CHAN qualifiers squad but was axed following his move with the Slovakian club.
Oh his Facebook page, Mainge thanked AFC Leopards for believing in him and promised to deliver for his new club. Below is the full message.
Let me start by thanking the Almighty God for the far He has brought me and the wonderful things He has done to me.
That said, may I take this opportunity to thank AFC Leopards for the belief they had in me. With no KPL experience, they picked me straight from school and drafted me straight to the first team. I want to thank my teammates there, the coaches I worked with and the club’s management for all their support. Without them, I couldn’t be here and I want to take this opportunity to wish them nothing but the best this season.
I want to thank my handlers too for the support they accorded me and for making this move happen. There have been challenges but I had people who ensured everything were in place; I’ll forever be indebted to them.
I want to thank the fans too who have been supportive all through this journey. You’ve been with me through the ups and downs. You keep me going.
As I begin my journey with FK Pohronie, I pray for God’s guidance and strength and hope that I’ll be a good ambassador of Kenya over these areas.
AFC Leopards’ response was also a class act.
That 6th minute goal vs FOSA Juniors at Bukhungu Stadium is still fresh on our minds….
