Napoli president slammed for Koulibaly-Maguire comparison

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly

The English Premier League transfer window was officially closed yesterday at 7 pm (EAT). But the talks about successful and failed deals are still setting social media ablaze.

One of the most interesting conversations that have emerged is the altercation between Manchester United and the Italian side Napoli FC over defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

It will be remembered that the Red Devils were heavily linked with the Senegalese move to Old Trafford. But their alleged £84m offer was utterly rejected with Napoli demanding at least £89million before letting the 28-year-old leave.

United then settled for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire from Leicester City whom they signed for a fee that could exceed £80 million on a six-year contract with the option for a further year.

This move appeared to have angered Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, who has asserted that: “I think Koulibaly’s value is €250m if they paid that much for that guy (Maguire).”

But this statement has not been well received with Man United fans as they make serious claims about Koulibaly.

Here are some of the reactions;

Kalidou Koulibaly joined Serie A club S.S.C. Napoli on 2 July 2014 on a five-year contract, for a fee around the margin of £6.5 million. Last year September, the Senegalese defender extended his contract with Napoli until 30 June 2023.
