A bill is being drafted that will see poultry, livestock as well as dogs and cats brought from upcountry charged to finance the capital city’s budget. In the Finance Bill 2019, Governor Mike Sonko-led county proposed KSh 25 per bird entering the city from upcountry as part of the administration’s effort to boost its dwindling revenue.

Domestic animals such as dogs and cats which are common among high-end estates will attract KSh 1,000 per head beside an additional health reinspection fees as tax and levies. The inspection fee ranges from KSh 10 to KSh 250 for each animal. This has not made Kenyans happy.
